Buck & simply designed Torquay House is the ultimate surfing holiday spot in Torquay, Australia. The cottage focuses on surfing and outdoor activities and can accommodate up to 20 people.
The structure plays with the geometric nature of the connection of three differently sized structures. A big house, little house, and entertainment deck enclose a central courtyard to create an all-inclusive atmosphere. The open layout prioritizes outdoor activities to take place in the distinctive courtyard. This inward-reflecting arrangement also creates a sense of privacy as the home is part of a larger neighborhood.
The living areas have sturdy raw concrete block walls seen throughout from the kitchen to the bathroom, a burnished concrete floor, and natural wood and copper details. An abundance of windows and doors offers an opportunity to connect with nature and all outdoor activities in the courtyard. The more private areas are accompanied by a calmer palette of materials, encouraging guests to slow down and relax after a day at the beach. Outside, a wooden screen frames a private courtyard with a surf utility area with an outdoor shower and surfboard storage. The courtyard is a cooking-dining area under one roof with lights and fans making it comfortable to stay in both night and day.
