We’ve often marveled at how little attention is paid to the ceilings in homes around the world, and often all you see up there is lots of white. This is even more confusing when you consider that as a race we have always been obsessed with looking at the sky and have been fascinated by the star show in the sky! With a blanket in the living room or bedroom that is unique, wonderful and full of vibrant colors and patterns, we can certainly bring a little of that wonder into the home. And no, it doesn’t always have to be full of stars and clouds and inspired by blue skies!

What are the benefits of a painted ceiling?
Sophistication on a budget. Although homeowners have many options for adding interest to the ceiling, not all of them are created equal. Painting your ceiling can completely change the look of a room.
Maximum warmth. Smaller spaces such as living rooms and offices can benefit from rich, rich ceiling colors that provide subtle warmth. Darker colors can be calming and cozy, giving the room a cave-like feel.
A feeling of continuity. In rooms where there is no natural 90-degree line between walls and ceiling, painting the ceiling may be your best choice for a clean, crisp look. Painting this line by hand, he says, can result in a less manicured look. Extending the color from wall to ceiling alleviates this problem.
The illusion of space. Although a common fear about painting a ceiling with darker colors is that it will close up a room, the truth is that a heavily saturated ceiling can actually make a room larger. It helps blur the lines and edges of the room. This can make small rooms appear larger.

How do I paint a ceiling?
Unlike other ceiling treatments that cost more money and require a firm design commitment, it’s easy to change the color if you don’t like it. And if your budget doesn’t allow for a professional painter, you can do the job yourself. It’s something anyone can do, it’s inexpensive, and there are no consequences.
Do a test run. Painting your ceiling with paint is not without its pitfalls, especially if you’re going for a highly stylized look. And if your ceiling has a textured surface, it’s best to stick with white paint. The flatter the surface, the fewer unevenness there are. If the ceiling needs a bit of work in the coming years, it will be more difficult to touch up the paint.
